When You Think You’re Safe in School, There’s Still a Chance of Being a Target in the Shadows

Today’s school lockdown is nothing new for many parents, and it’s often a frightening experience for students and teachers alike.

But for the first time in the school year, many schools are taking steps to make sure students are safe from threats and that their teachers aren’t in harm’s way.

“If the situation gets to the point where there’s no way to evacuate, we have to go ahead and do that,” said Michael DeMarco, principal of the University of Southern California School of Medicine.

“If the students can’t do that, we should not be doing that.”

Here’s what to know about the upcoming school lockdown and what you should do if you or someone you know is being a victim of bullying:When it comes to school security, some schools are focusing on a different type of threat than others.
