DALLAS — The school that was hit by gunfire last year and then was shuttered by Texas officials is back open.
The Texas Department of Education said Friday that the Denton Area Public Schools, which had been closed for a year because of a series of safety violations, is open and running again.
The district says the reopened Denton Elementary School is “the first in the district to open as a fully-functioning school.”
The Denton school district says it is in the process of building a new campus and that students will return to classes in April.
Denton, which has more than 1,000 students, reopened on Sept. 1.
The district has had more than 800 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
